Ingredients

  • 340 g Ready-made croissant dough The type in a tin. I use Jus Rol
  • 250 g Nutella Or other chocolate spread
  • 1 Egg Beaten

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 200℃/400F, 220℃/425F or Gas Mark 7.
  • Carefully open the tin of dough and unroll it. Place it on the lined baking tray. Cut the long strip in half and lay each half side by side so it forms a wider rectangle. Squish the join so they become one piece. Cut a line form the middle of the top edge, to the bottom left corner, and another line from the middle of the top edge to the right corner. (You want one big triangle and two smaller ones either side.) Cover the middle large triangle with the chocolate spread and spread it evenly.
  • Take the two smaller triangles you cut and flip them over so that you can sit them on top of the chocolate spread to join up and make a large triangle for the top. Squish the join in the middle, or any other gaps, together with your fingers.
  • Cut the strips either side using scissors, about 3cm wide. Don't cut all the way to the middle. Trim off any messy or uneven bits at the bottom (save this). Twist each of the side strips two or three times.
  • Use any offcut dough to cut out a small star to top the tree. Brush with beaten egg and bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until golden all over.

Notes

Make ahead: Do the prep, put it covered in the fridge, then brush with egg in the morning and bake. You may need to add a 3-5 minutes baking time if you’re putting it in straight from the fridge
Croissant dough: One 340g/12oz can. I use this one by Jus Rol as it’s good quality and easy to work with. Make sure its the type you roll out, NOT the ready-rolled croissants
Use scissors to cut stips: So much easier than using a knife!
