Chicken Goujons {Easy Recipe}

These delicious baked Chicken Goujons are full of flavour with succulent, tender meat and a golden, crispy coating.

Ingredients

  • 600 g Chicken breast, skinless and boneless Or 4 chicken breasts
  • 50 g Plain flour
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 2 Eggs Medium free range, beaten
  • 100 g Breadcrumbs See notes
  • Oil for greasing
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Pre-heat the oven to 200℃/400F fan, 220℃/425F or Gas Mark 7.
  • Slice the chicken breasts into finger-shaped strips 2 - 3cm wide.
  • In a small bowl, mix the flour with the paprika and seasoning.
  • Dip each chicken piece into flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. (Or, alternatively, tip the fish fingers into a big lidded Tupperware tub, add the flour, shake until covered, add the egg, shake until covered, add the breadcrumbs, shake until covered. Job done!)
  • Pop the chicken strips onto a greased baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20 - 23 minutes or until just cooked through (check at 15 minutes if you have cut your chicken pieces very small).

Notes

Breadcrumbs: I use Panko (Japanese breadcrumbs) as they are SO crunchy and lush. Regular breadcrumbs or homemade breadcrumbs will work fine too, but of course you could make your own if you wish. A great way to use up stale bread
To cook in air fryer: These do cook really well in an air fryer or Tefal Actifry if you have one. If your machine has a paddle to move the food around, just remove it and cook without as it will knock the coating off. The goujons may take less time when cooking this way, so check on them after 15 minutes
To fry: I like these golden chicken goujons oven baked as it saves a lot of mess and oil, but they would also be good shallow fried too if that’s your preference
